Graston Technique (IASTM)
The Graston Technique is a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization for injury recovery. It is an effective treatment method for sports injuries or those who have been in an auto accident. With IASTM, we will first rub a stainless steel tool over the skin of your affected area to move areas of the soft tissue fibrosis. The edge of the tool slowly slides along the skin surface and comes into contact with scar tissue. The friction and movement of this tissue helps the injury heal. After a period of time, generally 8 minutes or so, an ice pack is usually placed over the treated area. During an acute injury, the main goals of treatment with the Graston Technique are to decrease edema, pain, and to increase range of motion. Graston Technique is often used with:
- Ankle pain
- Hip pain
- Injury recovery after a slip and fall accident
- Car accident neck pain
- Tingling fingers and arms
